Thanks to equal parts misfortune and his own interference, Rincewind finds himself the guide and protector of Twoflower, the Disc's first tourist. I listened to The Light Fantastic right after this one, and I must say I liked the second book better than I liked The Colour of Magic.
As the first in the Discworld series, this is arguably the most important book of the lot would the others have happened without this one? The best is the guy with the most. Stephen Fry is a superb reader and narrator - he would read these fabulously well! The prospect of losing the eighth spell in this fashion prompts the Octavo to act, causing A'Tuin to perform a barrel roll to recapture Rincewind, landing the pair near the centre of the disk. The Side Steal Color Change is one of the first moves Adam learned in magic, and he is now ready to share his take on this time-honored sleight. Annika is very frustrated and gets mad at the Queen so she escapes again and goes to the kingdom festivities and an evil sorcerer mysteriously named Wenlock when he sees her he asks her to marry him. I actually can't really evaluate the narrator due to poor audio quality.
What do you think the narrator could have done better? They may, however, still enjoy the machismo involved in playing high-stakes pool. If this was recorded properly it would have been fantastic! I'm not good at writing reviews, but I love every Terry Pratchett book I've ever read, and I have a great affection for this one since it's the first in the discworld series, and the discworld series truly is one of the greatest literary achievments of our time in my opinion. What character would you cut from The Colour of Magic? The creatures from the which invade reality at the end of The Light Fantastic, and Rincewind's fight in the Dungeon Dimensions themselves, are completely omitted, and Trymon is simply driven mad by reading the Octavo spells at the end of the film version. The first part drew audiences of 1. The brilliant style and clarity of the later books is yet to settle down, and this - by comparison - is a little muddling. This book, while not the best of Pratchett's works, is nevertheless the best introduction to the amazing discworld, and a marvelous parody of all worlds, including our own.
The four take a ferry to Ankh-Morpork, where the populace is rioting against the wizards of the Unseen University because the star is now larger than the disk's own sun. The Color of Magic may tweak fantasy elements for laughs, but it also questions assumptions about how a world should work—real, fantastical, or anything in-between. Pratchett himself had also made a cameo in Hogfather as The Toymaker. The second part of the film attracted an average audience of 967,000, peaking at 1. Casting David Jason was the first actor to be cast for the production, as it had always been his desire to play Rincewind in a film adaptation of The Colour of Magic. Annika of course refuses, so the furious Whenlock goes to the king and Queen and he reminds them the bad luck their other daughter had, when Annika hears this she is very surprised, she did not know that part of her past but she had no time to ask any questions because in that moment the sorcerer casts a terrible spell on the magic kingdom.
If you like fantasy with a good seasoning of humour, imagination and trickery, this is the book for you! I think Planer did a brilliant job with all of the characters - brought them to life and kept them apart. It even made its way into the video game scene as a for all you old-school gamers out there. I really loved the optimistic and daring view of life that was displayed by the tourist, Twoflower. The real question is: what happens once the spells are said aloud? However, a poor book by Terry Pratchett is a very great deal better than the best work of many other authors. Death is also a very interesting character! There is some strong language, smoking, and drinking.
I found it on youtube but the quality wasn't very good. Was not a joy to listen to at all.
